All across the UK there are reports of strange Japanese sightings on the land:

    In Oxford

Mike Dobson on the Exploring Local captured a whole raft of Google Maps FAIL maps, so do please check it out!

For example, the East Kilbride Expressway occurs over many parts of Scotland (when it should, yes, just occur on the east part of Kilbride), but not only that,

even small country tracks are given the same name! Here, the house’s driveway is wider than the mis named Expressway!

However, my favourite is this, for the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Google Maps rename the famous and busy London street The Strand to “Y Strand”.  FAIL

It’s been speculated that the Google map makers got this from the Welsh Wikipedia entry for the street,  http://cy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_Strand

Journalist gets a fact wrong. No fail here, but….

Journalist assumes that people trying to correct the fact are fighting amongst themselves and are nasty.

    MAJOR BLOG FAIL

    techcrunch.com/2010/04/17/cloudmades-openstreetmap-surges-on-wikipedia-like-user-passion/#comments

The comments are worth reading, pretty much every commenter including the CEO of Cloudmade and OpenStreetMap Foundation board members try to clear up a small misunderstanding.

Just a misunderstanding by Michael Arrington:

    Many people describe CloudMade’sOpenStreetMap project

Bicker amongst yourselves if you like, but this isn’t the forum for it.

again, I think you guys are trying to drag me into your battles. it’s quite clear who controls the project.

no, it’s cutting through the bs and getting to the core issues.

what amazes me is how nasty this community is. and with that, comments are closed. CM and OSM, you’re on your own. Good luck battling Google.

Nasty people how dare you correct me!

Update, if you find that they have deleted the comments you can Download the article with comments here.

Update on the update : see comments, their comments have been disabled, but can be viewed. Anyhow. Comments are disabled on that post, which is FAIL too.

Appears Google is making Wales smaller and smaller by the day – or enlarging England!

    The BBC reports:

Allison Osterwald knew she had to enter England when driving from Swansea to Birmingham but did not expect it on the M4 slip road for nearby Port Talbot.
When looking on Google Earth for directions, the web-based satellite mapping service told her to ‘merge onto M4 via the ramp… Entering England’.
College student Ms Osterwald, 40, said: “They are making Wales smaller by the day.”
